IBDP at MUWCI
UWC Mahindra (MUWCI) offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) to students aged 16 to 19. Founded in 1997 in the Sahyadri Hills of Maharashtra, MUWCI delivers the IB in a fully residential, internationally diverse setting and extends it with a unique experiential learning programme and MUWCI CORE, a signature in-house curriculum. Students who complete the programme graduate with both the IB Diploma and the MUWCI Diploma.
The Programme
The IB Diploma Programme is a two-year, internationally recognised pre-university qualification. Students choose six subjects across six groups, study three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level, and complete three compulsory core components: the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and CAS.
At MUWCI, the programme goes beyond the IB minimum requirements. The residential campus, the international mix of students, and the range of co-curricular and service programmes are all designed to work alongside academic study. The campus is the curriculum in a meaningful sense.
The IB Core
A 4,000-word independently researched paper in a subject of the student's choice. The Extended Essay develops analytical, critical, and research skills at university level.
A course that examines the nature of knowledge across disciplines. Students explore how they know what they know and interrogate their own assumptions and biases.
CAS runs across the two years of the programme. At MUWCI it draws on the full range of what campus life offers: co-curricular projects, service in the Mulshi valley, outdoor challenges, and student-led initiatives.
MUWCI Core
MUWCI CORE is the college's signature in-house learning programme, designed to sit alongside the IB rather than duplicate it. While the IB provides the academic framework, MUWCI CORE provides what the college calls "the UWC Purpose": a structured engagement with the questions and challenges specific to this campus, this community, and this moment.
The curriculum evolves each year and is built around four interconnected modules:
Navigating identity, conflict, and restorative justice.
Moving from climate anxiety to regenerative action.
Cultivating personal resilience and community care.
Exploring the ethics of a technology-driven future.
The MUWCI Diploma
Every student who completes their education at MUWCI is awarded a MUWCI Diploma alongside their IB Diploma. The MUWCI Diploma certifies that the student's participation and achievements in across both the academic programme and wider campus life meet the objectives of the college.
