"What does MUWCI do for the community?"
UWC Mahindra (MUWCI), founded in 1997 in Maharashtra, India, is built on the idea that education across differences leads to people who act differently in the world. The impact of that education shows up in several ways: in the students who receive scholarships to attend, in the communities surrounding the campus, and in what graduates go on to do.
How MUWCI makes an impact
Through scholarships
The Student Scholarship Fund makes it possible for students to attend MUWCI regardless of their family's financial circumstances. Admissions decisions are made on potential, not the ability to pay. Alumni, institutional partners, and individual benefactors make this fund possible through their generous donations. Students from all economic backgrounds have attended MUWCI because of it.
Through diversity
MUWCI draws students from countries across the globe. That diversity is deliberate. The college selects students from different countries, regions, and backgrounds specifically so that the community on campus reflects the complexity of the world outside it. Students learn to work alongside people with different assumptions, languages, and experiences from the start.
Through engagement
Learning at MUWCI does not stay in the classroom. The academic programme is built alongside an experiential learning programme that involves travel, fieldwork, community collaboration, and project-based work. Students engage with real situations and real consequences as part of their education.
Through sustainability
The campus itself is a working model of environmental responsibility. Van Vihar, the college's biodiversity reserve, covers 24% of the 175-acre campus and was built from near-bare land over two decades. Organic farming, watershed restoration, and student-led conservation projects are all part of regular campus life.
Through service
MUWCI's service learning extends into the villages of the Mulshi valley. Through Akshara, MUWCI’s independent initiative, project weeks, and ongoing community partnerships, students work directly alongside local residents on education, public health, and livelihood projects. The relationship between the campus and the surrounding community is built into how the college runs.
Through university guidance
The University Guidance and Counselling Office (UGCO) supports every student in finding pathways beyond MUWCI. That includes university applications, scholarship searches, career fairs, and support for students taking a gap year. MUWCI graduates go on to universities across the world.
MUWCI Students Excel at OxfordMUN & Harvard PAIR Summit 2026
Recently, UWC Mahindra College sent a total of 27 student delegates across two premier global platforms hosted at FLAME University, Pune: Oxford Global MUN India 2026 (12 participants) and the Harvard PAIR Sustainability Impact Summit 2026 (15 participants).

Akshara: community outreach in the Mulshi valley
Akshara is MUWCI's local social-impact initiative. Its work spans 11 villages in the Mulshi valley, where it runs programmes in education, literacy, digital skills, and livelihoods. Over 15 years, Akshara has carried out more than 30 interventions across those villages. Its programmes include Equal Access to Opportunities, Janeev, Khelghar, and Setu, each targeting a specific gap: personality development, foundational literacy and numeracy, remedial support in government schools, and livelihood opportunities for village women. Akshara is not a separate charity. It operates from the MUWCI campus and functions as a partner for many of the college's service learning projects, connecting students directly with the communities they are working alongside.
"If it wasn't for Akshara I wouldn't have studied after the 10th grade, much less attended university. My parents' mindset has completely changed now. They not only encourage my younger sister to study but also participate actively in her education."

MUWCI is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS), a recognition received in 2018 after a rigorous external evaluation. It is also a member of the International Baccalaureate Organisation. Neither accreditation is decorative.
